Let's go for a walk

Take a walk with us around our neighborhood
I believe this is a form of clover
Today, we found a cool rock
Then we pass a mulberry tree
and some cute white bell shaped flowers growing among some succulent plants
and pretty fuzzy purple flowers
Wild lillies bloom along the tracks
This is a relative of Queen Anne's lace or fennel
Red berries make a delicious treat for the birds. I believe they are toxic to humans.
 Some pretty wild grass
 A mossy wall
This hole used to be a tree stump, but it's a regular stop on our adventures
The boys can tell you about tree bark
Patch of clovers
 pink smartweed
 We always stop!
 Purple nightshade with berries, poisonous
 Queen Anne's lace
 always delicious blackberries
We're lucky to leave near the woods
 Wild daisies
 clover flower
 chicory growing wild
 last stop: small garden
Good day, black eyed susans!

Flower Mandalas

I came across this awesome idea from I thought it would be a great idea to pick some flowers and leaves, and let the boys have at it. Here's what we came up with.
Mom made this one to give them some ideas

 Another one made by Mom

The boys really enjoyed this free play art project. You can use anything from nature, not just flowers! Be sure to check out the link above and browse the gallery for ideas. She is an amazing artist.

Welcome Summer! Trail Mix

We recently made some trail mix to snack on the go. It's pretty good, especially if you use the freshest & highest quality ingredients possible. Let the kids help with the measuring and stirring.

1 cup unsalted almonds
1 cup banana chips
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup chocolate candy (like M&Ms)
1/4 cup yogurt covered raisins (we used chocolate)

You can substitute or add any dried fruit (mangoes, apples, pineapples, papaya, etc.), unsweetened coconut, mini pretzels, mixed nuts, and/or sno-caps. Let the kids mix and match! Just beware- it's incredibly addictive. Luckily, it's pretty healthy.

We've also been testing some ice cream recipes since we acquired an ice cream machine. I'll be sure to share if I come across a really good one!
